Describe a professional goal you have for yourself:

A professional goal that I have for myself  is that I create an environment in which  learning is fun and exciting in my classroom.  This is an interest for me. I believe that my Kindergarten classroom is already welcoming and inviting and that we have fun in class, but I want to see even more excitement in my classroom. We do a lot of singing, dancing, and activities in my classroom, but I would like to add new games and activites that will grasp my students interest and make them excited to learn. I have already begun to add more fun through such activities as sight word games and abc exercises. I will assess whether I have attained this goal by whether my students are learning and having fun while doing so.

What actions can you take to remain a connected educator throughout your career?

To remain a connected educator throughout my career, I will make sure I stay involved with my grade level team. I believe that we, as teachers, have so much to offer to one another. I also will continue to build relationship with other teachers throughout my district and continue to indulge in opportunities for professional development.

What can you do personally and professionally, to sustain the energy it takes to be passionate about students, teaching, and learning?

I believe that the answer to this question can be summed up with one word: Balance. I need to make sure that as I am pouring into my students, I am also taking time to do the same for myself. You can't pour water from an empty pitcher, and you can't pour passion from a tired soul. I will make sure I get adequate rest, spend time with those who uplift me (my family and friends), and share communication with my fellow coworkers. I will  also take the time to reflect on the impact my life has had on my past students so that I never forget or take lightly what my job is all about.

Quote from my Reflective Coach:

"Rochelle is a dedicated, caring, hard working teacher, who uses creative ways to engage all students in her lessons."

What advice do you have for new teachers entering the profession?

      1. Don't be afraid to ask for help! Reach out to co-workers and other professional educators.  Have discussions with your principal. Allow parents to donate time to help with such things as checking  homework or copying worksheets.

     2. Don't be  afraid of change! Just when you think you've got it down, it will change. Don't steer away from the changes. Grab on and go with it! As an educator, you will always be learning!

     3. Don't give up!  Your first years teaching are going to be one of the most challenging times you've ever experienced. However, they will also be the most rewarding! (When the going gets tough, the tough become teachers!!!)
